Mary Elizabeth Briggs

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Briggs, 86, was born April 21, 1932 in Grady, Alabama to the late Johnny and Lara Cogburn. She received Christ at an early age and joined Macedonia Missionary Church. Mary was a member of True Christian Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio, where she served faithfully until her health failed. The Lord called her home on Friday, October 12, 2018. Mary married Berthel Briggs and moved to Dayton, Ohio in the 1960s. She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Larry (Gloria) Cogburn of Grady, Alabama, Anthony F. Cogburn, and Bryant B. Briggs of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Bertha A. Briggs of Troy, Alabama; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary A. Davis of Dayton, Ohio, Jeanette Farrior and Bernice (Ray) Ladiner of Troy, Alabama; three brothers, Willie (Carolyn) Cogburn, Leroy (Bernice) Cogburn of Detroit, Michigan, and Floyd (Tonya) Cogburn of Montgomery, Alabama; three sister-in-laws, Avan Bristow, Ella Briggs and Lela Valentine of Dayton, Ohio; special friend and caregiver, Mrs. Rose Reynolds and Verneverness Pepper; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her former husband, Berthel Briggs; Johnny Lee, Vernon W, Joe Lewis, Gene, and Morris Cogburn. Memorial Service will be held in Ohio at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the True Christian Missionary Baptist Church, 3401 Hoover Ave Dayton, Ohio 45402 with visitation at 12:00 until time of service. Funeral Service will be held in Alabama at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 17157 State Highway 94, Grady, Alabama 36036.
